Ethik supports 100% leather-free lifestyle not just for the animals, but for mother earth’s long-term sustainability as well. In this segment you will read about the ways to adopt a leather free lifestyle & the positive impact it will have on the earth & all its inhabitants.
Did you know that the leather industry is projected to be worth $45 billion in the next 5 years? That makes the world $45 billion richer, but 1 billion innocent animals poorer. There’s a common misconception that leather is simply a byproduct of the meat and dairy industries. The reality however is that animals are being subjected to mass exploitation & slaughter for their skin & other organs.

The environmental impact of leather is immeasurable & devastating. Since most of the leather used in the fashion industry comes from cows, sheep & goats, they are bred in huge numbers. This leads to huge pastures used for indiscriminate cattle grazing which in turn has led to massive deforestation. Leather is also identified as one of the key contributors to the Amazon rainforest burning.
The modern day tanning process used to prevent the leather from decomposing uses extremely toxic chemicals, many of which are known carcinogens that cause leukemia, sinus, and lung cancers. Formaldehyde, cyanide, lead, and chromium are all used in different tanneries around the world, and these dangerous toxins are released into waterways during the manufacturing.
Switch to Leather-Free Products
Cruelty-free leather materials are high quality & low maintenance products unlike leather. They don't fade, crack, become stiff and are usually stain-free. Also, as artificial leather is man-made; it's available in a range of colors and shades. It's better than real leather when it comes to manufacturing: easy to cut and sew. Even stitching is seamless.
Switch to Leather-Free Products
There are now advanced technologies available which ensure that the leather free materials are made by recycling plastic & other ingredients. These technologies also ensure that the products don’t end up in dumpyards at the end of their lives. They are taken back by recycling units to build furniture items by recycling processes.
The chemicals used for tanning give out toxic gases and effluens, which make it a dangerous place for the workers. The modern tanning process uses loads of energy, water and chemicals. The processes pollute the land to such an extent that old tanneries land cannot be used for cultivation. Going leather-free makes sure none of this happens to our world.
Together we can save millions of animals who are simply bred for their leather. Restoring balance on earth & co-exist peacefully. Laying the roots of non-violence & compassion, we are co-creating a sustainable future.
